ENERGY POLITICS AND GLOBAL POWER DYNAMICS

Abstract

In the contemporary landscape of globalization, energy politics emerges as a pivotal determinant in the formulation of international relations and the dynamics of global power. This thesis undertakes a compressive analysis of the impact of energy resources on diplomatic interaction and inter-state conflicts, with a particular emphasis on the complex interplay between energy dependency, national interests and geopolitical strategies. Employing a multi method qualitative framework that integrates semi-structured interviews, case studies, and content analysis, this research seeks to fulfill three primary objectives: to assess the ramification of energy dependency on national security to investigate the role of energy resources in the configuration of geopolitical alliances, and to evaluate the implications of the transition towards renewable energy sources. By engaging with policymakers and industry experts, this study garners rich contextual data that elucidates the underlying motivations driving energy related decisions. The findings indicate that energy dependency not only shapes strategic alliances among nations but also exacerbates tensions in regions abundant in energy resources. This research contributes significantly to the understanding of energy politics within the context of global governance and posits that future inquiries should explore the effects of renewable energy on traditional power dynamics and the evolving roles of emerging economies in the global energy landscape.
