Abstract

Background: Alexithymia characterized by difficulty identifying and expressing emotions .Medical students are at higher risk of developing alexithymia due to the nature of their studies.

Objective of the study: The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of alexithymia and its associated factors in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students at Isra University Hyderabad, Pakistan.

Methodology: In this cross-sectional study, participants were recruited from the department of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) IIRS of Isra University Hyderabad. In this study convenient sampling technique was used. The questionnaire in this study contained 20 close ended questions. The duration of this study was from July to December. The data analysis was done using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS).

Result: The total population of 234 students of Doctor of Physical Therapy (Dpt) from Isra University Hyderabad. 133(56.8%) respondents had alexithymia present, 63(26.9%) participants had possible alexithymia, 38(16.2%) participants had no alexithymia.

Conclusion:     It was concluded that there was a high prevalence of alexithymia among the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students.
